Tadayasu Sawaki (沢木 直保, Sawaki Tadayasu), full name Tadayasu Souemon Sawaki (沢木 惣右衛門 直保, Sawaki Souemon Tadayasu), is the main protagonist of Moyashimon and attends an agricultural university in Tokyo as a freshman. He is a childhood friend of Kei Yūki and his parents run a mold-starter producer (種麹屋, tane-kōji-ya). He is able to see and communicate with bacteria and other microorganisms.

Tadayasu Sawaki has medium-length blond hair and brown eyes. He is somewhat short in stature.
Etymology[]
- The name Tadayasu means "straight, direct" (直) (tada) and "protect, maintain, guarantee" (保) (yasu).
- Tadayasu's middle name Souemon means "all" (惣) (so) and "right guard" (右衛門) (uemon).
- Tadayasu's surname Sawaki means "marsh" (沢) (sawa) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki).
Trivia[]
- Tadayasu's middle name Souemon is the yagō of his family home; thus is usually omitted.
